Our site was built to:
The site is built on ASP (Active Server Pages) technology. It uses this to show information from the MySQL database using a web based admin system.
All pages are built in XHTML (latest version of HTML) using the more advanced method of DIV tags rather than traditional tables. This enables the full use of CSS which enables better control of the looks of the site and creates smaller pages (faster page loading).
We have an RSS feed which site owners can use to show our information automatically without the need to continually update their pages. This can also be used by everyone who uses an RSS reader (e.g. if you have a personalised Google home page).
We use a Global ASA file to show how many people are currently on the site, a robots.txt file to control where search engine spiders are allowed. We use Google and Yahoo sitemaps to keep the search engines updated with information about our site, this allows us to let them know if we have added / changed pages in the site.
We use Google Analytics and Sitemeter to monitor the sites progress, track visitors and analyse site statistics. When deciding on keywords for the site we used The Overture Search Inventory.
The site was constructed using Adobe (Macromedia) Dreamweaver MX 2004, taking advantage of the template system to maintain all pages in the site. The pretty bits were designed using Fireworks MX 2004 and the dynamic events animation was built using Flash MX 2004.
During construction the developer used forums such as Digital Point, MySQL forums, ASP Free, Tek Tips, PHP BB, Flash Kit, Google Groups, Code Project, Code Toad, and W3 Tips for help with technical problems and learnt new skills from W3Schools.
